Gift from the Heart

Dental-X was recently featured in OH Canada! (Oral Health Canada) Magazine, with our CEO Anaida Deti discussing a charity initiative we are involved in called Gift From The Heart.

Last year, independent dental hygienists across Canada opened their clinics to provide oral health care services at no cost to those who need those most.

For this event, we had three dental hygienists on site and a dentist working from 8:30am to 5:30pm. Dr. Kamalbake performed dental check-ups as well as emergency dental procedures. We had a tooth fairy, who entertained children while promoting proper dental care and educating everyone on the link between oral health and overall health.

Everyone in Canada deserves access to proper oral health care, but unfortunately many are not financially capable of accessing such services. By joining in the Gift from the Heart campaign, we hope to reduce the number of those in need of dental care.

We were glad to be able to participate in this wonderful event, and so we’re happy to announce that we will be taking part this coming year as well – February 7, 2015!

Please share the word, and help those in need receive free dental care this February.

Want to learn more about the people taking care of your mouth? We’ve asked Dental-X CEO and Registered Dental Hygienist Anaida Deti a few questions about oral health, preventative care, and what she loves about her job.

Anaida Deti
Registered Dental Hygienist

 1. What made you want to become a dental hygienist?

I was a dental student in Albania and I wanted to stay in the same field. I love working with people and making them smile!

 2. What sets Dental-X apart from other dental offices?

Dental-X is a modern dental office offering the best dental care using the latest trends and technology. We are focused mostly in the preventative dentistry.

 3. In your opinion, how many times per day should we brush, and how often should we floss?

We have to brush twice a day, in the morning and night time. We should floss at least once a day, before we go to sleep.

 4. Which common bad dental habit do you wish people would stop doing?

Smoking is very dangerous to our oral health and overall health.

5. What is your favourite part of your job?

Making patients feel comfortable in the dental chair.

6. Do you have any dental advice that you’d like to share with our readers?

The best dental advice is to take care of your teeth as much as you can by brushing twice a day, flossing once a day and visiting the dental hygienist/dentist at least twice a year for a dental check up.

Dental-X Smile Centres, along with our very own CEO Anaida Deti, was recently featured in Post City Magazines – both the Bayview and North York issues.

In the feature, entitled “Oral Health & Overall Health”, Anaida outlines the importance of mouth health to a person’s full-body health. Here is an excerpt:

“The mouth is a critical factor in determining what is going on in the rest of the body but most people do not connect their mouths to the rest of their bodies.  Tooth decay (cavities) and periodontal (gum) disease may contribute to many serious health conditions.

Bacteria from oral infections can enter the blood stream or airways and travel to other parts of the body and they have the potential to worsen or increase the risk for other types of health problems such as heart disease, stroke, and respiratory disorders.”

Everyone knows that it’s important to visit your dentist/dental hygienist for check-ups regularly. But have you ever stopped and wondered why? While it’s true that regular brushing and flossing go a long way toward optimal dental health, there are very good reasons for your regular check-ups. (more…)
